Messier Website
Unlocking the World’s Creativity through a Daily Creative Practice
Lion worked closely with the Messier team and meticulously crafted a unique visual brand identity, which spearheaded the design of the new marketing website. We began the process by exploring many visual design directions through Stylescapes, which include thoughtful choices in typography, colors, imagery, shapes, textures, and more. These Stylescapes served as a tangible representation of our distinct visual concepts. Throughout the iterative process of refining the brand visuals, the Lion and Messier team unearthed the styles that perfectly resonated with the brand and held a profound significance in relation to its mission.

Lion collaborated with the Messier team to create an exceptional and distinctive brand identity for their innovative mobile application, aiming to empower individuals and businesses to unleash their utmost creativity
Through a series of workshops and multiple rounds of design iterations, Lion dove deep into exploration of the brand's visual identity, offering a wide range of visual direction for the Messier team. Despite the extensive and iterative nature of the process, the team expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, successfully infusing the visuals with profound meaning.
Brand Exploration
We explored many options for the brand’s visual direction through Stylescapes, which composited imagery, color, typography and graphical elements into a long-form display of styles. The winner was the final Stylescape, which included warmer colors, playful shapes, and clipped black and white graphics.
Patterns and Shapes Representing Messier Objects and Adam (Creation)
The Lion team incorporated distinct and purposeful design choices into the brand’s visual identity and marketing website. The abstract shapes floating in the background of the designs were a nod to the Messier objects, a set of 110 astronomical objects accidentally discovered and catalogued by the French astronomer Charles Messier. The shapes represented an iterative creative process leading to discovery, spontaneity, and innovation. Another visual element which stood the test of time was a black and white chalk drawing of Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam”. In a fun twist, we explored a mashup of the classic drawing by clipping out and placing a smart phone device in Adam’s hand, through which Adam views the colorful insides of an abstract shape. Which became another nod to the unexpected nature of creative exploration.
Use of Patterns and Shapes
Our approach to revamping the proofing process was to focus on testing different variations of a direct mail piece. This allowed the manager to view batches of postcards based on the mapped data variations.
Innovating the 'Moment' Card Design for the Messier Brand
During the creation of the Messier brand, we engaged in the exploration of “Moment” cards’ design. These cards showcase a series of bite-sized creative exercises that users can access through the mobile app. Throughout this process, we ventured into various daesign approaches. Our approaches included integrating 3D shapes and illustrations, collaging, artistic line drawings, and assembling Bauhaus abstract shapes to symbolize the creative activities.
Marketing Keynote Slide Deck
Lion took charge of designing a presentation deck for the Messier team’s investor pitch. The deck skillfully integrated the brand’s colors and gradients, along with abstract shapes and distinctive brand elements. Additionally, the deck presented compelling statistics highlighting the significance of creativity in today’s economy, where automation and artificial intelligence take center stage. Furthermore, one slide vividly showcased the evident disparity in wellness and productivity applications aimed at supporting users in cultivating a creative practice.
Extending Brand Elements through Social Media
The Lion team also partnered with Messier to design several templated social media posts for Instagram and a LinkedIn cover banner. The LinkedIn banner includes a rocket ship ascending into a starburst shape over the dark purple background. There is an explosion of purple and pink paint shooting out of the end of the rocket ship, with smaller celestial abstract shapes in the distance. The usage of shapes continue reinforcing the connection between discovery (the Messier objects) and creativity. The templated social media posts were created as a foundation for the Messier team to begin creating more content centered around several themes: the science of creativity, quotes about creativity, fun facts, and abstract shapes representing ideas about creativity.
